Rob Roy Kelly Wood Type Collection

- Kelly first started researching wood type mainly because of questions from his design students

- Because of Kelly's extensive research and publication of American Wood Type, he was able to help revive interest in American 19th century printing types

- The entire collection houses about 150 different type faces and styles

- There are four methods for producing type: end-cut, die-cut, veneer, and celluloid. The end-cut method makes up the majority of the type in the collection.

- Kelly worked with the collection up until the 90s when he was asked to help preserve certain wood type styles by turning them into digital fonts
